by Educating kids to responsibly use Earth’s resources, is almost a no effort part of the resolution. Kids follow, copy and adopt mostly everything their elders say or do around them.
The key prerequisite is to educate THE GROWNUPS! And by that I mean to help them shake off the horrifying habit of using unsustainable items in their daily life.
It’s a fact that using plastic almost everywhere is a “need” that was created by the big marketers of the planet. It’s the cost driven implementation of mostly everything which led the world where it is today in terms of garbage.
The escape from this current chaos stays in the hands of those who contribute to it: Sellers, Users and Authorities.
Awareness is the first milestone these three actors shall all achieve, before anything would start progressing.
– Sellers shall understand that they cannot sell anything, just because it would improve the cash-in.
– Users shall act against various unsustainable offerings on the markets, even when some of those may make their life easier on the short term.
– Authorities shall do their job and be the surveyor of the market, by creating SMART laws and controls to govern it, plus repairing/rebuilding the public infrastructure of any sort of utilities.
So, yes, let’s keep the beaches clean, but for that to have the least of a chance to succeed, we need to stop producing and selling that garbage from the outset.
